Una isla que sirve de frontera con Tailandia, Malasia nos dió una calida bienvenida con sus hermosas playas, gente amigable y su comida deliciosa. Una cultura y religión diferente. Por cierto, es una isla libre de impuestos, chocolate para todos.
Langkawi, Malaysia's "duty free island" at first seemed a bit like Heathrow airport with a nice beach, but we quickly found the people here to be some of the most friendly and helpful in our travels so far, and they know how to cook a great curry! We also found it to be a great place to stock up on duty free scotch and chocolate before we moved on.

Penang (18/10/13)
Llegamos en ferry a Penang, un poco sorprendidos por los rascacielos y grandes edificios, caminamos a nuestro nuevo hogar. Un amigable señor sin camina y con dentadura postiza proveniente de China nos recibió en su hotel, con muebles antiguos y peculiares, y baños estilo mandi (a cubetazo). Otro señor amigable (también semidesnudo) al saber que soy de México cantó "Speedy Gonzalez", me dió un abrazo y nos dió galletas.
Due to a lack of reseach, we were surprised to find huge skyscrapers and posh cruise boats as we arrived by ferry, it was a bit of a shock after spending the past few weeks on sleepy islands. Once we had found the backpacker area and found somewhere to stay, we knew it was for us when the topless old Chinese man asked us how old we thought he was and proceeded to pull out his false teeth and another old man (also shirtless) sung the theme from Speedy Gonzalez to Rigel and gave us cookies!

Malasia tiene influencia de la India y China, muchos sabores, olores y música en sus calle. Confieso que soy fan de "little India".
Little India was probably the highlight of Penang, an attack on all the senses at once, music, colours, smells and great food.

Cameron Highlands (21/10/13)
Decidimos tomar un descanso del calor de las islas, un buen pretexto para tomar chocolate caliente y comer mucho para entrar en calor. Cameron es verde, llueve mucho y tiene paisajes hermosos, decidimos aventurarnos todos los días en explorarlos.
After a few months of hot weather, going to the highlands felt a lot like home, rain, tea and more curries, we loved it!
Para festejar mi cumpleaños caminamos a los campos de té, un camino de 4km en el bosque nos pareció interesante.
Rigel decided that on her birthday she wanted to do a short trek to a tea plantation, we got a bit more than we expected (including a cobra!)

La respuesta fue 7km adelante, un cumpleaños muy atlético y saludable.

Con nuestra perseverancia y con la lengua de fuera llegamos a donde queriamos, al ver el paisaje recargamos las baterias y corrimos por los campos de té, mi cumpleaños fue el mejor.
We finally arrived, a little later more tired than expected, but it was totally worth it. Happy birthday Rigel :)

Nuestra tercera caminata por los campos de té fue exhaustiva como de costumbre pero un buen samaritano nos llevo en su carro al pueblo mas cercano.

En la capital vivimos la mezcla de 3 grandes culturas, Malasia, China e India, y por supuesto nos dimos el lujo de disfrutar de sus diferentes cocinas.
The capital is a nice blend of old and modern and of several different backgrounds and religions living side by side. They have nandos too!

Ok, I'm not one to complain, but I've been following this blog for, what, a YEAR now, and suddenly it just... stops. What am I meant to do with my days? I want to see this continue.
