Una ciudad alegre y carismática, con un cálido
sentimiento de hogar, con excelente gastronomía, buen sazón y precios baratos. La plaza principal es muy concurrida por cusqueños y turistas, cada 5 pasos hay una persona tratando de venderte tours a Machu Picchu o a la selva, pero como buenos mochileros nosotros fuimos los guías.
I immediately liked Cusco, nice buildings, warm and sunny weather and really tasty food. We met some great people in our crazy hostel including a drunk Danish guy that puked in our sink! Definitely one of my favourite cities so far, but as much as we liked it, Machu Picchu was waiting for us!

Machu Picchu (27/04/13)
El siguiente texto resume nuestra aventura hacia Machu Picchu:
Tomamos una van por 8 horas, pasamos entre ríos, cerros y nubes, paramos en la hidroeléctrica y después caminamos por dos horas por las vías del tren que te llevan a Aguascalientes, el pueblo mas cercano a las ruinas, cabe destacar que yo ya tenía ampollas en mis pies antes de iniciar la caminata a MP.
La mañana siguiente nos levantamos 4:30am para iniciar nuestra travesía, los precios de los autobuses que te llevan de Aguascalientes a las ruinas nos parecieron elevados para nuestro presupuesto por lo que decidimos seguir a los otros mochileros; escaleras, ambiente selvático y lluvia nos hicieron un poco difícil la caminata. El agotamiento, sentimiento de desmayo y vómito lo olvidas al entrar y ver la primera vista de Machu Picchu.
Nuestra intención era llegar para ver el amanecer, pero lluvia y nubes fue lo que encontramos, no me mal interpreten, fue majestuoso ver las ruinas alrededor de las nubes, algo místico hubo en ello. No escribiré mas, lo resumo en "Simplemente majestuoso", las fotografías hablaran por si solas.
Getting to the ruins of Machu Picchu on a backpacker's budget was an adventure all by itself! An 8 hour drive in a van along some of the scariest mountain roads I´ve been on across rivers and through clouds got us 2 hours walk from Aguascalientes walking along the train tracks. There was a point where we were crossing a bridge over a river and heard the train coming. With no footpath we had to run along the tracks to avoid the oncoming train, it felt like a scene from a movie!
The next morning we left our hostel at 4.30am to climb the steep steps in the pouring rain through the jungle to arrive at the ruins before sunrise. 2 hours later, wet and tired we were greeted by the awesome first site of Machu Picchu and any exhaustion vanished. The site was cloaked in cloud and looked mystical and spooky, at this point we had visited many ruins but this blew them all away, truley amazing!

Líneas trazadas en el suelo cientos de años atrás
por la cultura Nazca formando diferentes figuras, aún se desconoce el cómo o el por qué de ellas. Dado a que nuestro
presupuesto es reducido optamos por ver una pequeña parte de las figuras desde
el mirador (Se aprecian dos figuras completas y un cacho de la otra).
No one knows exactly how and why the Nazca lines were created. A series of images in the desert floor of various figures, mostly animals, maybe it was aliens! From the rusty old viewing tower we were able to see 2 and a half of iver a hundres images, but it was good enough for us!

Un oasis en el desierto de Perú, dunas de arena
excelentes para practicar por primera vez sandboarding, uno de las mejores
actividades que hemos realizado en el viaje. Por alguna extraña razón mi cuerpo es aerodinámico
y me deslicé con mayor facilidad y velocidad que todo el grupo. Adrenalina al máximo
al deslizarte por la tabla.
I had never heard of this desert oasis before arriving in Peru and it was great to go and relax after the exersion of climbing mount machu Picchu! This relaxation consisted partly of bombing over sand dunes in a buggy and flying down them on a sandboard (snowboard!) In my usual clumsy style I managed to come away with a fat lip and sand burns up my arms, but no broken bones so all good!

Me enamore de la plaza mayor, para mí la mejor en los países
que hemos visitado. Vimos el cambio de guardia, recordando mi tiempo en
Londres, conocimos algunas de las principales parroquias y visitamos el Zoológico.
Nuestro amigo Víctor fue el mejor guía turístico, conociendo partes como La
punta, Callao, Barranco, Miraflores y una visita deliciosa a un restaurante de
comida típica peruana.
Our first couch surfing experience was a good one, staying with a family on the outskirts of Lima. Our host and guide Victor showed us the city including some areas that most tourists probably wouldn't reach. As I mentioned earlier, Peruvian food was some of the best of all the places we had visited so far, so I did my best to put back on some weight from being ill in Bolivia!

Un poco de playa es lo
que necesitábamos para descansar después de un largo recorrido por Perú,
mariscos, playita y alberca.
Cerviche, cheap beer, beaches and sunshine (just like being at home!) what more do I have to stay! The only shame was only staying 3 nights!!!
